The Trafford Centre - retail sales monitor for November 2006
The Trafford Centre's retail trading figures continue to increase month on month in comparison to the trading figures for 2005. This month, the sales figure for November 2005 versus November 2006 has shown an increase of 1.1 per cent.
Director Of Operations, Gordon McKinnon said “It's been very buoyant at The Trafford Centre over the last 4 weeks. On Saturday 2nd Decem ber alone we welcomed around 130,000 visitors - which meant that this was the busiest Saturday this year so far. In terms of footfall, we are up 3% on last year, and as a consequence, retailers are reporting good sales figures to date, particularly in the ladies wear sector. We expect footfall and sales to continue to build from now until Christmas.“ Thanks to the new exit road we opened three weeks ago, the Centre is coping extremely well with these increased visitor numbers which is facilitating the traffic flow for visitors arriving and departing.”
UK retail sales were also up, but by just 0.5% on a like-for-like basis, compared with November 2005, when sales had risen by only 0.8%, still affected by the July bombings in London.
Across the country, the mild weather has led to a slow start to Christmas trade, with consumers not yet in a winter mindset. The Trafford Centre remains unaffected by the apparent National slump.
