The Conran Shop appoints new chief executive

The Conran Shop has appointed former Urban Outfitters executive Hugh Wahla to the position of chief executive of Conran Retail & Brand Holdings, the parent company of The Conran Shop.

Wahla was previously managing director of Urban Outfitters Europe, having spent 17 years establishing and growing the business outside of its native USA.

In his new role Wahla will be responsible for strengthening awareness of The Conran Shop and overseeing its continued expansion in the UK and internationally.

The Conran Shop has recently opened its third UK store in the form of a concession within Selfridges. The brand’s other outlets include two standalone London stores in Chelsea and Marylebone as well as a store in Paris and six franchise stores in Japan.

Jasper Conran, chairman and chief creative director of The Conran Shop, said: “I am delighted to welcome Hugh Wahla as chief executive to head up the retail, licensing and all related parts of our business. Hugh is well respected in the retail world and has a proven record of building businesses. Our business has undergone significant change during the past few years, and Hugh will be pivotal in implementing the next stage of our strategy.”
