The City view - WH Smith

Archived article dated Wednesday August 27th 2008

WH Smith is expected to continue to outperform its retail peers over the next six months, according to an update note from Shore Capital, which retains its 'Hold' recommendation.

But it has concerns about WH Smith's longer term prospects. Although the broker believes the company has sufficient momentum with its strategy of cost savings and margin mix gains to underpin profit and cash performance over the next two to three years the question is what happens beyond this point?
Shore Capital suggests the company's core high street division needs to deliver something more to appeal investors over the longer term.
