Sainsbury's snaps up Co-op outlets
Archived article dated Friday March 6th 2009

The Co-operative Group has sold 24 stores to Sainsbury's in a deal worth £83 million
This is part of the Co-operative's arrangement with the Office of Fair Trading that stipulated it had to dispose of 126 stores following its £1.6 billion takeover of rival supermarket Somerfield in 2008. The 24 units are located throughout the UK, with only two currently branded as Co-operative stores. The sales to Sainsbury's is the latest in a raft of disposals that have included the offloading of outlets to Morrisons and Waitrose. Tagged as: sainsburys | co op | grocery
