Richard Cohen appointed as chief executive of Trinity Group

Trinity Group, the Hong Kong based owner of menswear brands Kent & Curwen, Cerruti and Gieves & Hawkes, has appointed Richard Cohen as its new chief executive.

In a second appointment, Trinity group managing director Sunny Wong Yat Ming has been promoted to a new role as executive director of Fung Retailing, the private holding entity for Trinity and other Fung Group retailing interests.

The appointments will take effect from 22 May 2014 although Wong will retain a connection with Trinity by being a non-executive director on its board.

British-born Cohen has nearly 40 years of international experience in luxury menswear brands. This includes being president and chief executive for Ermenegildo Zegna Corporation’s North America business for 16 years until 2004. He was also a senior executive with the Burberry Group wholesale and retail team in the US during the 1980s. More recently, he was senior vice-president of business development at US luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue.

Having been Trinity’s group managing director since 2009, Wong is credited with overseeing the group’s expansion and its acquisition of leading luxury menswear brands including Gieves & Hawkes, Kent & Curwen and Cerruti.

Trinity Group chairman Dr Victor K Fung, who is also chairman of the Fung Group, said: “With Richard’s record of success in developing leading international menswear brands, Trinity is well placed to build on the strong foundations established by Sunny.

“Richard’s international brand-building expertise in luxury menswear, along with continued access to Sunny’s knowledge of China retail, is a powerful combination as we move Trinity’s ‘Global Brands, Global Networks strategy’ to the next stage.”

Dr Fung also paid tribute to Wong for the success Trinity had achieved since its listing five years ago.

Cohen said he was excited about moving from New York to Hong Kong to take up his new post. He added: “This is an exceptional opportunity to participate in developing and serving the world’s most exciting market while contributing to the even greater success of some of the world’s top international menswear brands.”

As well as owning Kent & Curwen, Cerruti and Gieves & Hawkes , Trinity Group also operates the D’URBAN and Intermezzoare brands under long-term licences in Greater China.

Trinity operates 441 retail stores in Greater China and ten in Europe.
