Retail Trust appoints Terry Duddy as new chair

Retail Trust, the charity that looks after the needs of people working in retail, has appointed former Home Retail Group chief executive Terry Duddy as its new chair.

Due to take up his new role on 8 September, Duddy will be joined by a number of new trustees including the recently appointed Nigel Duxbury of AS Watson and Michael Green of British Council of Shopping Centres. In addition, Lindsay Page of Ted Baker is set to join in the coming month.

Duddy, who this year stepped down as chief executive of Home Retail Group after 15 years, was one of the longest serving chief executives in the retail sector.

Commenting on his appointment Duddy gave special praise to John Lovering, the retiring chair of the charity. He said: “I am delighted to be appointed chair of Retail Trust at a time when demand for our services is greater than ever. During John’s stewardship the charity has undergone significant change and the future is about evolving further our products and services  to support the 4.5 million people who work in retail and the supporting services and  related industries.”

“It’s been an outstanding year for the charity and I relish the opportunity to build on the sterling work done by my predecessor, John Lovering. I look forward to working with him in his new capacity as head of the Retail Trust Ambassador Group.”

During 2014, Retail Trust has increased its fundraising revenue by 18% which has enabled the charity to grow its grants and services by over 20% year-on-year.

Lovering said:  “I am delighted that Terry has agreed to become the next Chair. I leave Retail Trust in good health.  We have focused our work, increased our relevance to the trade , improved fundraising, built a new board and governance structure and appointed an outstanding executive team I  am really proud of today’s Retail Trust and I know Terry , Richard and the energetic new board will build on these foundations and take us forward strongly.”

Retail Trust chief executive Richard Boland added: “I am privileged to work with such outstanding individuals as John and Terry. The dedication of Retail Trust staff, our trustees, and volunteers and the unstinting support of the retail sector family is truly humbling.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their exceptional contributions over the last year.”
