Primark to open first US stores

Primark owner Associated British Foods has announced that the discount fashion retailer is to open its first US stores.

The retailer will initially open stores in the north east of the country starting with Boston, Massachusetts.

Primark has signed a lease for 70,000 sq ft of selling space in the city’s Burnham Building which was previously home to the famous Filene’s Department Store.

The new store is expected to open towards the end of 2015 and negotiations are under way to open further stores in the north east through to the middle of 2016. The US stores will be supported by warehousing in the region.

Primark said it had decided to take its discount fashion offering to the US after “extensive research”.
