Poundland drives further letting success in Dewsbury

Thursday February 25th 2010

Ravenhill Estates, advised by international real estate advisor Savills, has let units 19-23 at The Princess of Wales Precinct in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire to Poundland.

The value retailer has agreed a new 10-year lease on the store, which totals 3,500 sq ft (325 sq m) and comprises the former Claire’s Accessories and La Senza units as well as the existing Thomas Cook unit. Thomas Cook will relocate to a new 1,000 sq ft (92.9 sq m) store at the scheme previously occupied by Thorntons. Poundland will pay an annual rent of £100,000 and will open on the 4th March 2010.

Austin Baird at Ravenhill Estates, comments: “Securing Poundland has been a major coup for Ravenhill in the current economic climate particularly given the retailer’s popularity and it’s ability to drive significant footfall within the Precinct. Thomas Cook, whom we have worked diligently with over the last few months, has given full support to our plans as it believes the addition of Poundland to the Precinct will enhance trade”.

Steve Henderson, associate director at Savills, adds: “The new lettings at The Princess of Wales Precinct further underline the commitment from established retailers to Dewsbury. We have been working closely with Ravenhill Estates to actively market the scheme and create a tenant mix that incorporates both national and local occupiers who will increase footfall at the scheme and drive forward the town’s regeneration”.

Poundland was represented by Jones Retail.
