Original Factory Shop benefits from Woolworths demise

Archived article dated Thursday April 16th 2009

The Original Factory Shop has become the latest retailer to take on former Woolworths stores to fuel its aggressive expansion.

As part of its continued rapid growth plans the company has signed for stores in Chepstow and Cardigan and has plans to take on further outlets from the now defunct operator. Angela Spindler, chief executive of the Original Factory Shop, states that the former Woolworths sites are likely to be an important element in helping the company hit its target of opening 30 stores during this year. "The demise of Woolworths has created opportunities for us not only in terms of sites but also staff recruitment. We've been able to take on many of those that have lost their jobs and benefit from their years of retail experience," she explains

The company has also reported an impressive 12 per cent like-for-like increase in sales for the 14 weeks to end-March.
