Ocado to open virtual pop-up shop

Wednesday August 24th 2011

Ocado will be running a virtual pop-up shop at a central London shopping centre for a week from 26 August.

The shop will take the form of a ‘shopping wall’ printed window display where customers can order goods using the retailer’s smartphone app to scan barcodes, add them to their basket and book a time for their shopping to be delivered to their home.

The virtual store will be open 24 hours a day and will be housed in the One New Change shopping centre in the City.

Tesco has trialled similar technology in South Korea last month where shoppers ordered products from a virtual shop on an underground platform by using their own smartphones to take photos of products. Tesco has yet to launch the technology in the UK.
