N Brown sales growth slows

N. Brown Group has posted weaker than expected sales figures saying that trading since the general election has been subdued.

The firm said that in the 18 weeks to 3 July total group revenue increased by 1.1% with sales 0.1% ahead on a like-for-like basis.

The firm said it increased its share in women's clothing and footwear even though sales for the market as a whole for customers aged over 65 and for size 16+ had fallen.

Menswear and ladies footwear were maintaining their strong growth, as were its Jacamo and Marisota brands.

The group said: "The development plan for High & Mighty is progressing to schedule and we are excited by the opportunities for Figleaves, which we acquired last month, and for the imminent launch of the Simply Be website and catalogue in the USA this summer."
