Mayor salutes green retailers

London Mayor Boris Johnson has applauded retail businesses in the capital for their efforts in reducing CO*#*8322;emissions by around 120,000 tonnes.

Speaking at the first annual Green500 & Better Buildings Partnership Award, Johnson told the audience, “I salute London's retail industry for truly grasping the nettle to become greener. Their sterling work to cut carbon and become energy efficient puts London on the front foot to emerge from the economic downturn stronger and stimulate new jobs.”

Boots, Ted Baker and Liberty were among retailers awarded for their efforts, based on their implementation of their Green500 action plans. The Green500 initiative plans to reduce London's carbon footprint by 60 per cent by 2025.
