A “Royal” honour for The Illuminated Film Company and its top rated children's programme Little Princess
Other nominations competing in the Pre-School Animation category with The Illuminated Film Company's Little Princess (Producer Iain Harvey, Director Edward Foster / Five) are Charlie and Lola (Tiger Aspect Productions / CBeebies), Peppa Pig (Contender / Rubber Duck / Five / Nick Jr UK) and Pocoyo (Granada Kids / Zinkia Entertainment / CiTV).
Little Princess is an animation series aimed at children between 2 and 6 years old - but as Producer Iain Harvey adds, "with a warmth and humour that everyone can share." Featuring the voice talents of international television and film star Jane Horrocks, and presenter/comedian Julian Clary, the series is based on the best-selling picture books by award winning author and illustrator Tony Ross. The first 65 x 11' series premiered in October 2006 on Five Milkshake!, FIVE and FIVE Life and was rated the top programme on terrestrial TV in the UK in March 2007 (Source: DDS based on 4-6 year old target audience). Little Princess has been sold in over 120 countries so far and following the success of the first series, the second 35 x 11' series of Little Princess is currently airing on FIVE Milkshake! since September 2007.
Iain Harvey, Producer of The Illuminated Film Company, comments; “Receiving a BAFTA nomination is a fabulous tribute to the whole team that worked on Little Princess. We have enjoyed every minute (well almost - sometimes she has a tantrum!). I hope that this is reflected in the programmes themselves: we want everybody - children and parents alike - to smile. Ed Foster, the director, is a fabulous talent and I am privileged to work alongside him.”
Olivier Dumont, Managing Director of TV-Loonland, comments; “To obtain industry recognition from BAFTA is testament of the quality and popularity of this endearing animated series. It has been another significant year for Little Princess with strong ratings on FIVE and in several other territories too and we are confident the new second series will build on this success. As we continue to roll out a strong licensing and publishing programme, 2008 promises to be another big year for Little Princess.“
