IBM to analyse retail supply chain data
GS1 UK, the global supply chain standards organisation, has appointed IBM to assess the impact on retail businesses of supply chain data inaccuracies as part of the Grocery Industry Data Crunch Project.
The project aims to give a better view of hidden costs within organisations. The top four retailers and three top suppliers in the U K market are all taking part by supplying snapshots of their data for analysis. IBM will supply software and related services for the task.“This is the first time that such an exercise has been carried out on this scale. We are delighted to work with IBM to analyse the data records we are being provided with. The combination of their leading data analysis software and their unrivalled industry experience made the choice of IBM an easy one,” says , GS1UK business development director Malcolm Bowden.
“This is an important project for the grocery industry as there is a significant amount of hidden cost in the supply chain from inaccurate data that has not been addressed,” says IBM UK Global Business Services Retail Supply Chain leader Justin Suter. “The Data Crunch Project aims to help the grocery industry assess its own data and should provide ideas to kick start initiatives and help the industry build smarter supply chains.”
