Homebase launches trial of Check & Reserve

Leading home enhancement retailer Homebase has commenced a trial in seven stores of the Check and Reserve facility for customers.

This follows the national rollout of the Homebase “online stock check” service in May.

Long established and successful in sister company Argos, the Check & Reserve facility allows customers to select products from the website and check if there is stock in their local store. Five stores launched the stock check & reserve trial on 16 September and they will be joined by two more stores on Friday 17 October.

Ajay Kavan, Homebase marketing director said: “We believe the ability to research and check store stock online is a very important part of any home improvement multi-channel proposition. Customers visiting homebase.co.uk can already check stock at their local store on over 10,000 products. They can now reserve stock online for collection in our trial stores. This is a key part of Homebase's multi-channel development, which started with a website re-launch earlier this year. We will continue to develop our multi-channel proposition and to closely monitor the success of our “check & reserve” trial”.

Jon Davis, Homebase business manager for Check & Reserve commented: “Research has shown that increasing numbers of customers plan and research their purchases from the web but still prefer to shop locally for convenience and the success of stock check has been very encouraging. In addition, the information we receive about customer demand will benefit both our replenishment activity and our store ranging decisions.”
