Grow your own boosts B&Q
B&Q has confirmed the strength of the trend for consumers to grow their own vegetables, recording treble digit increases in the sales of greenhouses and seeds in its first quarter results.
Sales of charcoal barbecues have risen 148 per cent compared to last
year, with Summer House sales up too. And the self-sufficiency trend has seen a 400 per cent increase in the number of bike stores sold. There was a 20 per cent increase in water butt sales."We're seeing more and more people across the UK improving instead of moving, plus Britons are choosing to enjoy time at home and in their gardens instead of forking out on holidays abroad - homeowners are increasingly reluctant to splash out so DIY is cool again," says B&Q and Kingfisher chief executive Euan Sutherland.
