GameStop to close 250 stores in 2013
US video games retailer GameStop is planning to close 250 stores in 2013 but will also open 60 to 70 outlets in new locations.
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, GameStop CFO Rob Lloyd said that 200 of the store closures will be in the US with the remainder in other countries. GameStop expects to reduce its store portfolio by 2% in 2013.
Lloyd added that the stores earmarked for closure had been unprofitable for some time and that the company was following its strategy of shutting down unprofitable outlets and moving customers to nearby stores.
GameStop is also understood to be looking to purchase 40 former GAME stores in France.
