Five more retailers sign up to Cabot Circus
Archived article dated Tuesday October 28th 2008
Over two million shoppers have visited Cabot Circus in its first full month of trading. The £500 million scheme, developed by Bristol Alliance partners Land Securities and Hammerson, has attracted an average weekly footfall of 500,000 since opening on 25th September despite UK-wide difficulties in trading conditions.
Anchored by House of Fraser, Harvey Nichols and Cinema de Lux, the one million square foot retail and leisure destination, which has introduced over 75 new retailers to Bristol's city centre, has just signed a further five retailers taking the scheme to well over 90% let by floorspace.
Jeweller Azendi and beauty products retailer Rituals are to open new stores in The Circus element of the scheme before Christmas, while restaurant Crystal Rivers is set to open in Quakers Friars, the scheme's focus for fine dining and high end fashion retailing. Other new signings are Soho Coffee and News Hut.
Over the last four weeks, another ten retailers have opened their stores at Cabot Circus. Fashion brands Crew, Oakley and Principles, all first time retailers to Bristol's city centre have now opened, as has Oasis. Guess and Guess Accessories are to open shortly.
Among the latest café and restaurant operators to have opened in the city centre for the first time are Carluccios, Coal, Frankie & Benny's, Tampopo and Zizzi. Costa has also opened its second café within the scheme.
Richard Belt, Cabot Circus Centre Director said, “Cabot Circus opened way beyond our expectations in terms of footfall, sales, and penetration of the catchment area, which has endorsed all our research and more. While acknowledging that these are early days for the scheme, the response from Bristolians has been phenomenal. We could not have had a better start for Cabot Circus. Many of the retailers are continuing to report sales well above target, and on opening day many of the restaurants and cafes were trading at 50% above expected targets.”
