Eversheds comment: HSE Strategy document

Commenting on the strategy document produced by the HSE, “The Health and Safety of Great Britain - Be part of the solution”, aimed at challenging the UK workforce to prevent injuries at work, Tim Hill, partner at international law firm Eversheds comments...

"While no-one would challenge the validity of its aims, the strategy document gives little specific guidance as to how these will be achieved or how this will be rolled out to the HSE inspectors ‘on the ground’. However, perhaps of greatest concern is the distinct lack of revolution in what is billed as a ‘new strategy’. It will be hard for employers to view this document as anything other than a regurgitation of traditional HSE mantras.
"The HSE has also failed to make reference to new legislation, recent legal cases, or indeed the current economic situation, to reinforce their ‘new’ strategy. An ever increasing number of major businesses recognise that good health and safety equals good business, but this provides little practical assistance for those trying to raise their standards."
