Earl of Sandwich to make UK debut at Bluewater

US sandwich retailer the Earl of Sandwich is to make its UK debut at Bluewater, Kent’s retail and leisure destination.

Owned by Earl Enterprises, which operates 27 outlets in the US, the Earl of Sandwich will open a 551 square foot site in Bluewater’s Winter Garden.

The outlet will sell made-to-order signature hot sandwiches as well as a range of hand tossed salads, wraps, pastas, pizzas, soups, smoothies, chocolate brownies and Nespresso coffee.

Alex Garland, managing director for EMEA at Earl Enterprises, which also owns Planet Hollywood, Buca di Beppo, Planet Dailies and Mixology 101, said: “We have been seeking a launch site in the UK for some time and Bluewater really stood out. Its reputation is unrivalled, both in the UK and the wider European context, which is why it is so popular with expanding international brands.”

Russell Loveland, portfolio director at Land Securities, the co-owner and asset manager of Bluewater, added: “Earl of Sandwich is another great addition to Bluewater’s line-up of leading UK and international brands. Their unique combination of heritage and high quality grab-and-go food adds something new to Bluewater, providing guests with even greater choice.”

Also opening in the Winter Garden is Shawa, the sister brand to Comptoir Libanais, the Lebanese-inspired canteen-style restaurant founded by Tony Kitous. The 472 square foot unit will be the brand’s first location outside central London and will offer healthy Lebanese street food.

Bluewater has also announced that a new champagne bar called Oh You Pretty Things will open in Bluewater’s Village.

All three brands will launch at Bluewater before Christmas.

The news coincides with a strong year for Bluewater’s dining brands, with catering sales up 8% in the year to date.
