Dwell reaches tenth store opening milestone with signing at Cabot Circus, Bristol

Archived article dated Tuesday May 20th 2008

Dwell, the furniture and home accessories retailer, is to open its tenth UK store this Autumn.

The retailer has signed up for an 8,000 sq ft showroom at Cabot Circus, the one million sq ft retail and leisure destination being developed in Bristol's city centre by Alliance partners Land Securities and Hammerson.

Dwell leads the latest signings at Glass Walk, the scheme's focus for lifestyle shopping situated on the same level as the new restaurant terrace, the 3000-seat Cinema de Lux, and the main entrance from the scheme's 2,600-space car park.

Other new arrivals to Glass Walk include Starbucks, which has taken a 3,200 sq ft panoramic unit overlooking Broadmead, and Explore Learning, which has taken a 1,100 sq ft unit. The three newcomers join Sony, and children's toy retailer The Entertainer, which have already committed to the scheme.

Keith Stone, Bristol Alliance Leasing Director, commented “Glass Walk has been designed to attract a cross section of lifestyle retailing concepts at affordable rents to widen the variety of the scheme's overall tenant mix. Dwell is a key addition and will bring a real point of difference to the scheme introducing a showcase for its range of exclusive designs to shoppers in the south west for the first time. It will build on the homeware offer at House of Fraser ensuring that Cabot Circus becomes the principal focus for home styling shopping.”

Aamir Ahmad, Managing Director, Dwell Retail Limited, said “Bristol has been on our radar as a prime location for our store expansion programme for some time. We have built up a solid customer base in the region from our mail order and web catalogue and have been looking for a store which would reflect our brand values. Cabot Circus more than matches our criteria and gives us a wider reach to the high proportion of affluent and style-conscious shoppers across all age groups to be found within the city.”

Set to open in Autumn 2008, Cabot Circus is one of the highest profile mixed-use developments in the UK, and will provide high quality retail and leisure uses, residential apartments, offices and public spaces totalling 1.5 million sq ft in the heart of the city.

Joint letting agents for Cabot Circus are DTZ and Lunson Mitchenall. Ashley Medway of Mann Smith represented Dwell.
