Digitise as a matter of survival: is your store ready?

Technology takes over London next month as swarms of start-ups, industry champions and disruptive dreamers showcase the latest ways to better connect the world.

Among the festival of events that make-up London Technology Week, one particularly stands-out this year – Your in-store Digital Technology Day (June 18). The inaugural in-store Digital Technology Day aims to do just that – in more ways than one. Designed by leaders on the digital frontier – specifically for retail’s marketing, customer journey and digital store executives – the event offers the definitive guide to meaningful customer connections.
But more than this, event proceeds support London’s young adults with learning disabilities get the skills they need to succeed in today’s digital economy.

Right now retailers are searching for new ways to adapt to changing customer behaviour and develop strategies for the digital world. The basics of retail haven’t changed, but the way we do it has. Customers expect to be known and recognised by the brands they love. So the best retailers are increasingly thinking about how to make it more relevant, personalised and interactive to be in their shop – after all 90% of sales still take place in-store.
“Digitising” the store is not just big business, but a matter of survival. Retailers that take advantage of digital experiences stand to gain against competitors that do not.

Retail giants M&S and Dixons Carphone are already making waves here – including Dixon Carphone’s “Stay & Play” areas, where customers can sit down while experiencing products, and Marks & Spencer’s interactive digital screens and video walls. Both retail giants will share thoughts on new in-store experiences that add real value to customers at Your in-store Digital Technology Day (June 18).

Mark McMurtrie, Event Chairman and Independent Consultant, Retail and Financial Technology, says: “I am supporting the event due to its innovative structure, high quality content and its support for charity.”
Sarah McVittie, Co-Founder, Dressipi says: “This event is materially important to in-store digital experiences and customer engagement will develop moving forward.”
Martin Moran, former Innovation Director, Fujitsu & Commercial Director, Post Office says: “The retail industry is one of the most competitive industries in the world and the opportunities to take advantage of technology are exciting but are not without risk. With a world class list of attendees and companies the event promises to be thought provoking and inspiringly for all.”
