Budget boosts Kent centre's eco bag sales
Fremlin Walk Maidstone has seen sales of its eco bag rocket following Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling's call for retailers to reduce the use of plastic bags.
Fremlin Walk launched its eco bags in December 2007. The 100 per cent cotton bags are sourced from a Fair Trade organisation supporting under-privileged communities in India.
Retailing at £3 the bags are hand-made using only natural materials and all proceeds fund better wages, health and education resources in these communities.
“I am proud to say our recycling levels are now close to 100 per cent with all cardboard, plastic, glass, metal, even light bulbs from stores recycled weekly. Waste food from Fremlin Walk's cafes and restaurant is taken to a composting site and general refuse is now taken to an energy creation plant rather than landfill.”
